Wind Power Projects
CANA Utilities is a full service electrical utility contractor which has provided the industry with safe, reliable, effective and innovative construction solutions for over 50 years.
CANA Utilities has a long history of involvement with wind power projects in Alberta, going back to the Visionquest project near Pincher Creek which was completed in 2001. This project was the first large scale project of its type to be constructed in Alberta. CANA Utilities provided the engineering, procurement and construction services for the collection system. This included transformers, underground low and high voltage cable, overhead construction and connection to the substation. Visionquest has since been acquired by Trans Alta Corporation and CANA Utilities has continued to provide services to Trans Alta to this day.
In 2003 CANA Utilities performed all the collector system terminations for Trans Alta's McBride Lake project near Fort MacLeod and in 2009 we mobilized personnel from Alberta to perform terminations on Trans Alta's Kent Hills wind project in New Brunswick.
Most recently in January 2011 we have completed Phase 1 of Castle Rock Ridge for ENEL North America Inc. We installed the underground collection system for 33 turbines using innovative methods to ensure terminations were done within a strictly controlled environment. This produced terminations of the highest degree of quality which will ensure the integrity of the collector system and facilitate the secure flow of power from the turbines to the substation.
Our sister company CANA High Voltage has an extensive history of designing, building and maintaining substations for wind farms. Together we can provide a complete solution for your wind farm from construction only to a complete electrical EPC balance of plant package. If required, we can call upon our parent company CANA Construction to manage and provide all other services including site works, access roads and foundations to provide a completely coordinated construction package.
