CANA Utilities was awarded a uniquely designed transmission line crossing the Athabasca River on the Suncor Site.
This line was a 4 km double circuit line consisting of 1192 ‘Grackle’ conductor and two OPGW shield wires. There are three QQ towers, three Slip Joint tube style structures, as well as two 78 m tube structures built in five sections with flange joints. These two structures have 11 ft bases on large concrete foundations and are located on each side of the Athabasca River. These structures support a 650 m span crossing the river. The river span has 22 aerial marker balls on the shield wires. Each river structure has a CCVT mounted just below the bottom circuit to power a beacon light located on the top of the structure.
